JOB DESCRIPTION

Our comprehensive line of products includes: pipe couplings, plain-end fittings, valves, cast and malleable iron fittings, forged steel fittings, steel pipe nipples and couplings, pipe hangers and hardware, channel and strut fittings, mining and oil field fittings, and much more.
 
The Set-up Repair and Tooling candidate needs to be familiar with hand tools. The tools will be used to set up and prepare the machinery to run the next product line.  They need to be capable of measuring and checking the quality of the products after the machine has been setup.  We have openings on 1st and 2nd shift in our Machine Shop and Foundry.
 
Essential Job Duties:
 
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustment as necessary.
  • Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hands tools.
  • File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
 
Includes occasional exposure to dusty conditions; masks available upon request. Noise level up to and exceeding 80 decibels requires continuous use of hearing protection that is provided by the employer. Hazardous conditions include exposure to moving parts of grinding wheels, as well as forklifts when moving to and from workstations. Required safety attire includes safety glasses and steel-toed shoes. Gloves provided upon request.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
 
Standing: Must be able to stand on a constant basis (67% or more of work shift) to perform most functions. Level working surfaces include concrete, steel grate, and wood. Anti-fatigue mats provided upon request.
 
Walking: Must be able to walk occasionally (up to 33% of work shift) for most tasks but up to a frequent basis (34% to 66% of work shift) for some tasks such as servicing machines, operating multiple machines, operating paint line. Surfaces are level and include concrete, wood, and steel grate.
 
Sitting: Must be able to sit on a constant basis (67% or more of work shift) when operating forklift. While some machine operation and assembly tasks are typically performed while seated, these functions can also be performed while standing.
 
Pushing/Pulling: Must be able to pull on an occasional basis (up to 33% of work shift) product from rear to forward pre—operation storage areas using small rake. Must be able to pull down on testing machine bar exerting approximately 8 - 12 lbs. frequently (34% to 66% of work shift). Must be able to pull 55 gallon drum of liquid on cart requiring approximately 30 lbs. exertion occasionally (up to 33% of work shift).
 
Lifting: Must be able to constantly (67% or more of work shift) lift product to complete most functions. Product ranges in weight from under 1 lb. to 28 lbs. maximum, with the average processes requiring constant lifting of 5 — 8 lb. product.
 
Carrying: Frequently (34% to 66% of work shift) carry parts up to 22 lbs. 3’ - 5’ on paint line.
 
Stooping: Must be able to stoop up to a frequent basis (34% to 66% of work shift) as when working on paint line, servicing machines, and operating some testing machines.
 
Crouching: Must be able to crouch on an occasional basis (up to 33% of work shift) when servicing lower areas of machines.
 
Kneeling: Must be able to kneel occasionally (up to 33% of work shift) when servicing lower machine areas.
 
Climbing: Must be able to climb a ladder up to 10’ occasionally (up to 33% of work shift) when servicing machines
 
Reaching: Must be able to reach up to a constant basis (67% or more of work shift). Whji~ most functions require bilateral reaching in front of the torso between 36” and 42”, other functions require reaching between 42” and 69”. Partial and full arm extension required.
 
Handling: Must be able to constantly and repetitively (67% or more of work shift) hold and handle products with one and both hands to perform required functions.
 
Fingering: Must be able to apply fine finger dexterity up to a constant basis (67% or more of work shift) on some functions, although more functions require gross manipulation as described above.
 
Feeling: Must be able to occasionally (up to 33% of work shift) perceive product smoothness and texture by touch.
 
Visual Ability: Must have depth perception (ability to see objects where and as they really are) on a constant basis (67% or more of work shift). Far acuity and field of vision up to a constant basis are needed for forklift operation.
 
GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
 
(The formal and informal education/training contributing to the employees reasoning, language, and mathematical skills. Ratings are based on a low of ‘1’ and a high of “6.)
 
Reasoning: Level two (2). Must be able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed instructions. Must be able to discriminate among different shapes and sizes of product pieces and to discern imperfections.
 
Mathematics: Must be able to understand basic addition to tally units
 
Measuring: Able to read and understand a ruler and other measuring devices.
 
Language: Level one (1). Must be able to learn job duties and locations from verbal instructions.
 
SPECIFIC VOCATIONAL PREPARATION:
 
(The amount of training time required by the typical worker to learn techniques, acquire information, and develop the facility needed for average performance.)
 
Level 2 (two) is required. Training time between short demonstration and 30 days.
 
APTITUDES:
 
(Specific capacities/abilities required to learn or perform adequately in a task or job duty. Ratings are based on a low of “5”” and a high of “1”.)
 
Level three (3), average ability, motor coordination, finger dexterity, manual dexterity, and eye/hand/foot coordination required.
