Reporting through the site Superintendent the Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the assigned work area. Position oversees sub-contractors and a variety of trades people, Tech support, etc. All of who maintain, repair, rebuild all types of heavy mining and support equipment. Position assigns work, allocates trades people time to best utilize available workforce, ensure the safe working of all reporting to him/her. Responsibilities include assisting trades people in repair procedures and techniques, troubleshooting and continuously training and developing his/her staff.
 
Oversees activities in the assigned work
 
  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner, by performing job observations, review and sign off of FLRA’s, Facility inspections and setting safety standards and expectations, in-line with the guidelines as agreed with the senior leadership team. 
  • Ensures that operational requirements are met by supervising the activities of sub-contractors and tradespeople who repair and maintain equipment on the customers site. This means that realistic shift targets are set, and that actual completion are measured against target – DAILY
  • Ensure workers employed and/or allocated to a particular job have the appropriate qualifications and certifications to perform that job on the assigned This also includes that their safety and regulatory requirements are up to date for the specific work area.
  • Assures a quality product by conducting in-process inspections and evaluating the work. 
  • Takes corrective action for improvement by providing counselling and utilizing the disciplining process when standards are not met. 
  • Ensures all documentation and pictures are collected and submitted for RAMP or warrantable jobs.
  • Oversees and coordinates the day to day the management of onsite AHS RAMP parts.
  • Report on field issues to the site Superintendent to ensure timely corrective action. 
 
Ensures compliance with safety rules and regulations to provide a safe work environment and meet regulatory requirements
 
  • Monitors, inspects, and documents the workplace through the VSL and Joint Workplace Observation process.
  • Deals with hazards and issues promptly and brings unresolved issues to the next level of management. 
  • Ensures all employees on the crew(s) know and understand the safety rules and processes (policies, CP’s, SWP’s and JHA’s).
  • Reviews jobs and processes to create JHA’s specific to their area of responsibility and makes recommendations for SWP’s.
  • Collect and action items from the daily facility inspections, JHA’s and FLRA’s.
  • Ensure safety incidents are investigated and completed in a timely and quality manner. 
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable measures to observe and enforce those rules and processes which apply to the particular jobs being performed. 
  • Responsible for keeping employee safety training up to date and ensure the training is documented and recorded in the employee file.
  • Brings awareness to safety by participating fully in all Branch and Company safety programs.
 
Supervisory
 
  • Ensures payroll and human resources policies and procedures are met and enforced. 
  • Ensure all employees are operating in alignment with the SMS Mission, Vision and values. 
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by enforcing all SMS and customer procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Lead tool box talks and monthly safety meetings. 
  • Enforce start/ stop times and coffee breaks; ensuring customer is getting value for onsite service. 
  • Timely submission of employee time cards and other documentation with emphasis on accuracy. 
  • Communication of information and messages from leadership to the work force, also communication of issues on the floor to senior leadership. 
  • Performance evaluations annually and as required. 
  • Provide technical assistance and required materials and tooling to employees to maximize efficiency und equipment availability.
 
Customer service
 
  • Serves customers by providing service information and by resolving service problems using all branch and factory resources. 
  • Timely reporting and escalation of issues such as down time, product, parts etc. Or delays resulting in job time line over run.
  • Resolves service problems by asking questions and clarifying the customer’s concerns; determining the cause of the problem; explaining the best solution; making the correction or adjustment; and following up to ensure resolution. 
  • Attend customer meetings as required.
  • Prepares core reports. Assists in location of lost cores / parts on site. 
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
 
  • Position requires a thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of mining equipment.
  • Requires trade certification in a relevant trade & experience as a qualified tradesperson with supervisory experience and proven ability to oversee and coordinate the trades.
  • Intermediate computer skills are a requirement.
  • Also requires knowledge of OHSE acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.

Reporting to the General Supervisor this position will provide electrical support and expertise to some of the largest mobile mining equipment in the world.
