Piping Designer

This position joins a piping team that provides comprehensive multi-discipline design and engineering service to assist our heavy industrial clients in maintaining and upgrading their facilities, capital and maintenance, for single and multi-discipline engineering design projects. Examples of heavy industrial sectors and projects may include: Oil and Gas, upstream extraction/gathering, transmission and processing, mining and municipal.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform specific tasks assigned by design lead in a pre-defined timeframe
• Prepare drawings and/or 3D models from reference information including sketches, notes, vendor drawings, or general direction from design lead
• Checking of 2D drawings and 3D models for clashes and constructability
• Review specifications, codes, and vendor documentation
• Prepare complete and accurate design and drawings that adhere to Tetra Tech and client standards as well as applicable codes
• Ability to schedule the work to completion that both satisfies project scope and project schedule/cost
• Maintain accurate and organized drawing files within existing file structures
• Keep piping lead informed of project status and challenges
• Provide support to junior designers and all departments as required
• Coordinate with all disciplines as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Strong interpersonal skills for both client and internal team interfaces
• Excellent oral and written skills
• Ability to effectively plan time commitments on multiple concurrent projects
• Quick, on the job learner
• Efficient
• Adaptable to changing schedules and work situation
• Ability to understand and interpret P&ID’s
• Proficiency in using 3D modeling platforms
• Understanding of construction, operation and maintenance requirements
• Strong attention to detail
• Client service orientated
SOFTWARE AND SYSTEMS
• Proficient in AutoCAD, CADWorx, AutoPlant and Navisworks
• PDS, Microstation, CADWorx P&ID, SmartPlant P&ID and Inventor considered an asset
• Familiar with 3D Cloud points and as-built 3D modeling tools such as LFM BubbleView/Modeler or CADWorx FieldPipe
• Proficient in MS Office particularly in Word, Excel, Office
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
• Engineering Design and Drafting Technology diploma (SAIT, NAIT or equivalent) or Process Piping Drafting Certificate.
• 5-10 years’ design experience is preferred
TRAVEL
• Travel to our regional offices or industrial clients sites ranges from occasional (one day trips) to more frequent (two to three days trips), with potential for longer term requirements
