Miller Maintenance proudly provides maintenance services on Maintenance Contracts for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in all five of the Ministry’s Regions. With instructions from the Foreperson, the Core Operators will work together to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure so it meets the performance requirements of the Ministry Directed Maintenance Contract (MDMC). This could include physically demanding duties such as pothole repairs, installing small signs, end treatments, debris pick up and assisting the emergency response operators and patrollers on the highway. You may be required to operate a loader and participate in winter operations as an equipment operator.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual Health, Safety and Environmental obligations for the staff and public are met.
  • Winter and summer maintenance on highway infrastructures, as outlined in the MDMC Performance Measures, including active snow-plow operator during winter months.
  • Investigate and respond to inquiries from the general public and external agencies. 
  • Liaise with the Patrol Supervisor and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to resolve concerns.
  • Become familiar with performance requirements of the MDMC and identify deficiencies and potential work order opportunities.
  • Operate heavy equipment, including winter combination units, spreaders, and loaders
  • Set up and take down of traffic closures and assist with traffic control at work zones and at accident scenes.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as spills, accidents, and inclement weather and implement an emergency plan.
  • Conduct daily circle checks of equipment before operating.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and perform minor repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including driver log books for CVOR vehicles, hours of service, etc.
  • Assist with general duties to ensure the shop, common areas, and exterior of the yard are clean and safe.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Requirements:
 
  • DZ license required
  • 1+ years’ experience in road maintenance and knowledge of OTM book 7 through prior positions, including snow-plow operation, landscaping, etc. are strong assets
  • Willingness to learn and appreciate Miller values - safety, quality and integrity so we can continue “Building Greatness”
  • Excellent team player, proven ability to work productively in a highly functional team 
  • Flexibility and organizational skills to multi-task and manage time in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
  • Have mechanical knowledge and experience with general equipment maintenance and operation of small tools and heavy equipment
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) to accurately document daily activities
  • Willingness to remain on call on a regular shift rotation and work assigned days, nights and weekend shifts as required
  • Able to perform manual labour and lift up to 25 kilograms
  • Comfortable working and driving in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to travel as required 
 
 

Asphalt Plant Foreperson/Operator

We are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of an Asphalt Plant Foreperson based out of Moncton, NB operations.

Mechanic
  • Service all company vehicles and equipment
  • Diagnose and repair light vehicles, heavy trucks, heavy equipment, including hydraulics, electrical and heavy power train, after treatment diagnostics
Loader Operator – Portable Crusher
  • Ability to safely operate various pieces of equipment, including Skid Steer and Front-End Loader to meet production targets
  • Complete all necessary daily paperwork. May include, but not limited to, daily logs, vehicle inspection logs, hours of service, etc.
Float Driver
  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Huron’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual HSE obligation for the staff and public are met
  • Load, offload and set-up heavy equipment at jobsites in a safe and efficient manner
Administrative Clerk

The Administrative Clerk position contributes to the successful operations within the Miller Maintenance team. This is achieved by supporting operations with various tasks including but not limited to; reception, payroll, invoicing, payables, filing, job costing and general administration.

Core Operator

With instructions from the Foreperson, the Core Operators will work together to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure so it meets the performance requirements of the Ministry Directed Maintenance Contract (MDMC). 

Lead Hand (Licensed Truck and Coach Technician)
  • Demonstrate safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviours at all times in support of Miller’s Health and Safety Policy, Programs and initiatives
  • Maintains daily work load and organizes Shop Technicians
Shop Forperson

This position will support both the Hamilton and Niagara shops.

Grade Person, GPS

This position will be responsible for conducting field surveys, stake outs, monitoring and tracking progress of work.

Dispatcher/ Scale Operator
  • Greet all incoming truck drivers at the scale house and ensure all trucks are properly and accurately weighed on the scale both entering and leaving the facility
  • Operate the weigh scales and scale software
