The Opportunity
 
Footwear Materials Developer is a key role within the Global Innovation Center (GIC) focused on the research and development of innovative footwear materials to fuel the overall development and design efforts of the footwear innovation team. Reporting to the Footwear Materials Innovation Director, this role works closely with all functions of product creation within the GIC team including, design, project management, development, technical design, testing and manufacturing to develop materials specifications for product functionality, durability and aesthetics. As critical part of the project execution team, you have a deep understanding of all facets of materials research and material's development including; researching polymers, creating unique fibers and yarns, defining new material types (foams, rubbers, leathers, synthetic leathers, textile upper materials, laminates or something not yet imagined). You will be involved in the overall process of product creation from idea generation, product design, prototype development, physical testing through commercialization and production. You will research and present emerging materials solutions to the GIC teas by attending material shows, meeting regularly with suppliers and traveling to vendors, as necessary. Given the complex and technical nature of innovation concepts, the role requires experience with materials testing and test protocol, properties for consumer comfort, and the knowledge and ability to design test programs to confirm new material's expectations are realized. You will oversee coordination and review with the Asia materials testing team and maintain an organized materials library, complete with up to date materials, testing history and specifications. Knowledge of product creation processes and manufacturing are preferred. Innovation requires a passion to re-think the future. Qualifications
 
Experience & Qualifications:
 
  • A strong, technical, material's researcher, competent in all levels of material development technology, and commercial material's execution. Someone who can take the vision of a consumer need and create a material solution to satisfy that opportunity.
  • 4 years of global material's development and/or experience in a mill or manufacturing fabricating materials. Four year college or technical degree in Materials Science preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in textile and synthetic leather, leather, foams and plastics manufacturing, material development, or similar fields.
  • Experience with global suppliers; materials chemistry, yarn or finished goods suppliers. 
  • Experience working with multi-disciplined teams including, design, materials, technical design, and manufacturing. Experience with material's physical property testing, global test standards, and experience interpreting test results into projected materials comfort and performance. Awareness of footwear product testing and wear testing processes preferred.
  • Experience working with global manufacturing suppliers (Asian experience preferred).
  • An engaged team mate; proactive collaborator. Microsoft Office tools.
