Position Summary:
 
Tervita Waste Management is looking for a Transfer Station Technician to join the Richmond Facility. The Transfer Station Technician is responsible for receiving and identifying waste material as it arrives at the Richmond Transfer Station. Once the material has been received and identified the Transfer Station Technician will prepare the waste for disposal and/or transportation this includes packaging, classifying and ensuring proper documentation is in place.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Receives and identifies all waste entering the facility
  • Test waste as required to ensure corresponding paper work is accurate
  • Take and prepare further samples as required
  • Ensure all waste has been properly classified and documented
  • Ensure all required documents adhere to legal requirements set out by AENV and the ERCB as well as maintain compliance within TERVITA guidelines
  • Repack similar waste into larger means of containment for efficient transportation and disposal
  • Entry of all inbound, repacked and outbound data into TERVITA’s internal Waste Tracking Database
  • Actively participate in tracking all waste containers within the facility
  • Provide general labour services as required
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and daily tailgate meetings
  • Abide by TERVITA’s Occupational Health and Safety Program
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a clean and organized Transfer Station
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Post-Secondary Science education related to: Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Studies
  • Previous experience in a related work environment where TDG or WHMIS is an essential part of the job
  • Technical and regulatory knowledge related to the waste services industry, with the ability to ensure compliance of waste transport rules, regulatory requirements and TDG regulations
  • Competent at completing documents on a daily basis including waste manifests and bills of lading
  • Good understanding of the regional Occupational Health and Safety requirements and ability to operate mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments and long demanding work days
  • Physically fit and able to perform physical tasks on a daily basis including lifting, moving containers and other heavy materials, along with the ability to spend a major portion of each day on your feet
  • Good computer skills and efficient at using MS Office
  • Good time management skills and ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
