We are looking for a Utility Operator to join our team in Lac La Biche, Alberta.
 
About the opportunity
 
The Utility Operator operates and maintains a BNR wastewater facility, including septage receiving, sampling, analysis and maintenance of equipment to ensure water treatment, distribution, and/or wastewater treatment is performed as per regulatory, environmental and safety standards.
 
Please note that Operators at this facility are on a two week on/two week off rotation. During your time off you may be required to return to the site on short notice. Operators are also required to tow a trailer to a nearby landfill as part of this role so you must have a valid driver’s license.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly sampling. Monitor, document and be responsible for of all aspects of a wastewater facility. To ensure continuous compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Operate, inspect and service equipment for all types of water and wastewater processes. Including hydraulics, pumps, valves and other related equipment.
  • Performs related security, safety and administrative procedures involving chemical hazards, personal protective equipment, general health and safety procedures, and emergency preparedness
  • Maintains emergency preparedness binders and field operating manuals
  • Undertakes routine repairs to water distribution and wastewater treatment and collection systems
  • Maintains shift logs, recoding meter and gauge readings
 
Who you are
 
You are a certified operator – Alberta Level II - or you are close to obtaining your Level II certification. You must have a minimum Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and a clean driving record.
 
The successful candidate also has:
 
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use power tools
  • Experience with HVAC, SCADA and/or HMI and TDG Lab experience
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift 20 kgs occasionally
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases
  • Knowledge and understanding of WCB Alberta practices/protocols
  • Ability to learn and perform tasks with little direction, or supervision
  • Ability to outside work in inclement weather.

District Energy Utility Operator
  • Maintain, monitor, adjust and control the process flow of various district energy systems to ensure safe and efficient operation and compliance with internal safety requirements, contractual obligations and external regulations.
  • Operate, inspect and service equipment in all district energy facilities, underground distribution piping and energy transfer stations at multiple sites, performing repairs, preventative and corrective maintenance as required.
Utility Administrator

The Utility Administrator provides customer care support by responding to inquiries, keeping track of customer orders and services, creating invoices, and performing billing and collections under limited supervision.
