JOB DESCRIPTION
 
The Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services is a senior administrator who participates in the overall management of the College as a member of the President’s senior management team. The incumbent also ensures the financial integrity of the organization by overseeing the organization’s financial management system.
 
The Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services provides leadership, strategic planning and senior management direction to the administrators and staff responsible for Information Technology, Financial Services, Facilities Management, and Campus Services.
 
In addition, as Vice President Finance and Corporate Services, the incumbent also acts as Treasurer to the Board of Governors and Canadore Foundation.
 
ASSETS
 
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), plus any application in-house
  • Experience within the academia or another complex public sector organization

The successful candidate will possess excellent skills and abilities critical for executive level managerial success including leadership, decisiveness, flexibility, sound judgment, and highly developed personal, analytical and communication skills.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • A relevant degree (financial designation/MBA preferred) in related disciplines is required at the point of hire into the position, with at least 10 years of full-time experience
  • High level skills required in the areas of judgment, communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, administration management, teaching, presentation skills, adult education, human relations and negotiating.
  • Administrative planning and management – full range of skills related not only to ongoing operations, but also to team-building and change management.
  • Adequate knowledge and skills to use personal computer and online systems for information gathering and processing; and adequate knowledge of information technology to understand and set direction for academic use of computing in support of college objectives.
  • Well-developed human relations, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytic skills related to policy, budget, and operations issues.
  • Excellent priority-setting and conflict resolution/mediation skills are essential.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills required.
  • Significant financial management and planning skills.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Corporate Leadership and Planning
 
  • Actively participates with the President and the other Corporate leaders in the provision of leadership, strategic planning and administrative decision making of the College.
  • Assists the President in advising the Board of Governors on corporate issues such as College planning, policies, finances, budgeting and facilities management.
  • Provides senior management leadership to the administrators and staff in the portfolio which includes Financial Services, Information Technology, Facilities, Safety, Security, Environmental & Corporate Services
 
Corporate Financial Integrity and Risk Management
 
  • Ensures the continued financial integrity of the College by establishing robust policies and procedures to obtain full funding entitlements while ensuring appropriate College expenditures.
  • Implement and lead a participative budget planning process which maximizes College resources.
  • Accountable for implementing all aspects of financial planning, analysis and comprehensive fiscal reporting as directed by the President and the Board of Governors.
  • Accountable for internal financial controls and resource allocation that include management of
  • College funds, financial analysis, reporting and audit requirements.
  • Oversee the design, assessment and monitoring of control standards ensuring mitigation of financial risks for the organization as well as developing and maintaining an operational risk reporting framework including key risk indicators.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of all College financial services including effective investment of College funds.
  • Acts as treasurer to the Board of Governors.
 
Information Technology Leadership
 
  • Provides support and executive level advocacy for the College’s central IT services which are responsible for such services as the College network, telephone system, administrative and other applications, server infrastructure, end-user support, core services such as e-mail, general purpose computing labs, mobile computing classrooms, audio/visual services and the management of the College’s laptop and desktop computer inventory.
  • Ensures the ongoing effectiveness and security of the College’s IT operations while maintain the focus on enhancing the learning experience.
  • Implements and maintains a corporate IT governance structure to enhance service to the community.
 
Campus Facilities, Safety, Security, Environmental & Corporate Services
 
  • Implements and supports a structure to manage and enhance Canadore’s campus services including security and public safety, residences, food services and retail outlets.
  • Provides corporate strategic direction for Canadore’s security and public safety including a community free of violence, fire safety program, crime prevention programs, parking policy, emergency prevention and response plans and other programs as needed.
  • Ensures optimal contractual arrangements with Canadore’s on campus service providers and partners.
  • Entrepreneurial Services and International Projects and other duties as assigned.

DEAN – FACULTY OF ARTS, DESIGN AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic, the Dean will be accountable for providing senior academic and administrative leadership for the Arts, Design and Entrepreneurship programs and will be a member of the College’s Academic Leadership Team.

SYSTEMS ANALYST (PROGRAMMER)
  • Analysis, design and specification, programming or selecting appropriate packages, documentation, conversion, staff training and post-implementation support
  • Provide advanced support and training for major Canadore systems, Banner and other related systems
