Scope of work:
 
Redpath Black Diamond will be the primary contractor on an underground mine development project located in Matheson, Ontario. The planned development will consist of waste and ore development in the Smoke Zone and Middle Zone consisting of approximately 1590 meters of development of different sizes.
 
Job Summary:
 
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the primary role of the Shift Supervisor is to coordinate the daily activities of the mine development according to plan and is completed to standards.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Carry out all directives of management. Read and sign all log books daily
  • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving all employees job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progress
  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained to operate the equipment they will be using. If not, you will required to train them or arrange for training
  • Assist in work scheduling and planning. Be aware of any changes of conditions in the workplace
  • Ensure all equipment is in good repair, have broken equipment scheduled for repair and make equipment available to mechanics when it is scheduled for preventative maintenance
  • Fill out all progress reports or accident/incident reports that happen during his/her shift
  • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, as well as company policy and regulations.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production concerns
  • Communicate routinely and effectively with the Mine Manager and other supervisory personnel as required

Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Front Line Supervisor (or other provincial equivalent) (Required)
  • Minimum of 10 years underground hard rock mining experience with 5 years at the Supervisory level
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Post-Secondary education in a mining related discipline or equivalent experience (preferred)
  • Must understand responsibilities of leadership
  • Advanced understanding of mine regulations pertaining to task
  • Ability to conduct risk assessment of specific task
  • Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety and Mines Regulations
  • Ability to lead through example
  • Requires strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Requires basic computer skills
  • Working knowledge of all production equipment
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
 
Health and Safety:
 
  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor
  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. PPE, lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.
  • Ensure permits are in place and lock 0ut tag out procedures are followed
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable to safely performing the assigned work
  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Work in accordance with local legislation

Miner

Under the supervision of the Lead Miner and/or Shift Supervisor, the primary role of Miner is to inspect existing underground headings, scale loose rocks and install ground support to stabilize rock mass and ensure safety. 

Mechanic

Under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic, the primary role of the Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment.

Lead Mechanic

Under the supervision of the Mechanical Supervisor and/or Underground Superintendent, the primary role of the Lead Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment.

Lead Electrician

Under the supervision of Superintendent, the primary role of the lead electrician is to install, wire, maintain & perform preventive maintenance and repairs to electric equipment in surface and underground areas.

Jumbo Operator

Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the primary role of a Jumbo Operator is to set up and operate a two-boom Sandvik jumbo to drill and blast in a safe manner.

Cage Tender

Under the supervision of the Superintendent/ Shift Supervisor, the primary role of a Cage Tender is operate mineshaft conveyances which may include skips and/or cages and other devices that are used to move workers and material within the mine shaft safely.
