ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

The Economic Development Officer (EDO) is a highly accomplished professional who will leverage their knowledge and expertise to support the community’s economic development goals and priorities. Reporting to the Senior Administrator, the EDO must have the ability to develop strategic recommendations and plans; build relationships with economic development partners, the business community, area municipalities and other First Nations; and work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
 
The EDO shall support Wahta’s profile as a community with an attractive economic climate by welcoming new business opportunities, building on local assets, resources, heritage and innovation. The EDO will also provide advisory services and administer support programs targeting community member owned businesses and those community members seeking to establish businesses.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
 
• Prepare briefing notes and presentations for submission to the Senior Administrator and Chief and Council.
• Organize and facilitate community meetings and other types of community engagement activities to ensure all members are informed of economic development activities and initiatives.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with external stakeholders and potential partners.
• Undertake analysis and evaluation of economic and business opportunities and develop strategies and advice for developing and strengthening these opportunities.
• Develop and implement program and project related budgets in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
• Work collaboratively with all internal departments to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated delivery of all services and programs.
• Prepare applications for available grants and other types of funding as well as completing required reporting on funding received.
• Provide small business and employment development support to community members.
• Oversee the operations of current community owned ventures and businesses, while identifying area for growth and enhancement.
• Participate in committees, working groups, conferences, and other types of meetings.
• Review and provide advice and recommendations on the current economic development activities being undertaken, with a view of aligning these initiatives with the strategic goals and priorities of the community.
• Work closely with the Wahta Mohawks’ Chief Financial Officer in evaluating the financial components of any proposal, assessing current financial investments and assets, and developing any recommendations potentially impacting the financial assets of the First Nations.
 
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
 
• Completion of post-secondary studies in Marketing, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or a related field and/or certification as a Professional Economic Developer.
• Working experience in Economic Development, marketing, or business administration; preference given to applicants with relevant experience working in First Nation communities.
• Ability to comprehend and develop policy papers, technical papers, and present technical data to supervisors, community members and other key partners.
• Ability to develop grant and funding proposals.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
• Well-developed organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines while being flexible to accommodate shifting priorities.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to network, build and foster positive relationships with community members, staff, other managers, and government.
• Demonstrated financial management, administration, program delivery, project management and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledge of First Nation reporting requirements and sound knowledge of First Nation programs and services.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Must be reliable, dependable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality as proven through past work experience.
 
Other Requirements:
 
• Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” license and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
 
Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time position beginning immediately. Hourly wage will be based on
qualifications and experience.

EDUCATION SERVICES ASSISTANT

The Education Assistant will be primarily responsible to support Wahta Mohawks Education and Employment/Training Services.

Cannabis Education and Awareness Worker

The Wahta Mohawks are seeking a qualified individual to fulfill a short-term role in developing and implementing a community-based cannabis education, awareness, and harm reduction plan.

Personal Care Worker

Reporting to the Senior Services Co-Ordinator, the person is responsible for providing care, support, assistance, and supervision to the Elders within the community of Wahta Mohawks.
