School Bus Operators (Seasonal)

The School Bus Operator will report to the principal of the Wasauksing Kinomaugewgamik school. The driver is responsible for the safe operation of the school bus in accordance with MTO driving regulations. The driver must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times. The driver will pick up and drop off students, as per the established schedule, and will also maintain order and security on the bus for all students. The driver shall obey the Ontario Traffic Laws and adhere to safe driving practices.
 
Summary of Duties:
 
  • Prepare and follow a routine of daily safety checks to both interior and exterior of bus before operating vehicle;
  • Develop and follow an Ontario School Bus Inspection Log Book and daily Driver’s Time Log Book;
  • Follow a schedule of pick up and drop off times;
  • Report regularly to the principal on the operations of daily runs;
  • Maintain the bus in good mechanical running condition and report any deficiencies to the principal;
  • Cleaning of the interior of the bus on a daily basis/restock supplies when necessary.
 
Skills/Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
 
  • Current Class B Licence;
  • Current CPR/First Aid;
  • Knowledge of highway and school bus regulations;
  • Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures;
  • Ability to maintain effective log books;
  • General knowledge of Anishinabek customs and traditions;
  • Ability to speak the Anishinabek language is an asset;
  • Must have own vehicle, valid Ontario driver’s license and be insurable under Wasauksing First Nation policies;
  • Copy of an up-to-date Driver Abstract;
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check/Current CPIC must be provided upon conditional offer.
 
Rate and Classification – Rate of pay will be determined according to Classification 11 of the approved WFN Salary Grid, and may be increased commensurate with experience.
