Reporting to the Process Control Group Manager, the Senior Program Engineer will be based at Fraser Mine, Onaping and will oversee, lead and work on the process control programs / projects at both Fraser and Ni Rim South Mine client sites while also providing input to other projects from XPS consulting services to external and internal clients in the metals, mining and processing businesses. The Engineer may also be required to work at other client sites - as required by the business needs.

 

The goal of the mining process control engineer is to ensure the maximum value is realized from instrumentation, ventilation, tracking and (PLC based) control systems (including Schneider Modicon I Allen Bradley and OSIsoft Pl systems) and control technology in supporting and optimizing the everyday operations.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

• Development, testing and implementation of new instruments, networks, tracking, controls,

control and optimizing strategies.

• Analysis and recommendations for new or revised controls.

• Mentor and train less experienced staff, and Engineers in Training (ElTs).

• Meeting project deadlines and operation targets, milestones.

• Support and encourage safety and quality assurance programs.

• Project leader, including periodic external projects, which might be overseas.

• Provide support to Manager, and Mining / Project clients.

 

What you will bring:

• A primary degree in Mining, Mineral Processing, Chemical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

• Masters degree in Mine Automation or some aspect of Control Engineering - understanding automation, regulatory, advanced regulatory and advanced process control.

• Registered as or be eligible for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status by a Canadian provincial licensing body.

• Minimum of 3-5 years ‘hands-on’ relevant mining automation / process control experience

working with/on PLC based system and OSlsoft Pl monitoring system.

• Proficiency with MS office suite and process control development, loop tuning, asset monitoring tools like: Matlab, Taili / ExperTune, CPM / Triage etc.

• Strong project management and reporting skills.

• Leadership skills.

• A business sense and entrepreneurial spirit.

• Excellent communication (oral and written) skills, problem solving and analytical skills.

• Personable, team player.
