Youth Justice Strategic Analyst

COTTFN Justice Department has an opening for an individual with a commitment to analyzing Youth Justice issues and crafting solutions. The Youth Justice Strategic Analyst will play a key role in developing policy and programs that ensure the human rights of youth are protected, lead to empowerment for youth, and aim to prevent youth from entering the criminal justice system.
Key Responsibilities
• Analyze the current literature and research, to create systems that prevent youth from becoming involved with the criminal justice system
• Write in-depth reports and/or policies to safeguard COTTFN youth interests and rights
• Liaison with the London Courthouse to develop improved systems
• Liaison with COTTFN departments to ensure integrated holistic approaches to programming
• Provide advocacy for COTTFN youth, as required
• Develop strength-based programs relational to restorative justice concepts in collaboration with police and the justice committee
QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES:
ESSENTIAL
• College or University education in social justice, criminology, or crisis intervention
• Self-motivated with the demonstrated ability to undertake complex project management
• Superior time management, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience in implementing educational awareness campaigns
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role – 3-5 years’ work experience preferred
• Knowledge of relevant legislation
• Strong knowledge of Anishinaabe way of life and COTTFN
ASSET
• Experience in addictions and mental health issues
• Ability to understand problems of a systemic nature and provide an assessment
EXPERIENCE
• Ability to work independently
• Not an entry-level position
• At least 2 years related legal experience highly preferred
