Lab Assistant

The Laboratory Assistant will provide support for routine sample analysis following prescribed standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities:
Specific Responsibilities:
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s);
- Ensure the quality of the work meets ALS standards
- Prepare glassware for analytical use by cleaning and drying in accordance with instructions;
- Assist in refrigerator co-ordination by dumping and discarding of spent samples as instructed;
- Ensure laboratory is clean and tidy to ensure a safe work environment;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Physical Demands:
- Able to stand or sit for extended times;
- Ability to lift 25 pounds;
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
- You will be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
About You:
The ideal candidate would have:
- Completion of High School Diploma;
- Lab experience an asset;
- Experience with Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in chemistry or related field an asset.
You would also be:
- Capable of working with minimal supervision;
- Well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
- Ability to prioritze and multi-task
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions;
- Intermediate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word would be an asset.

Laboratory Assistant
The Lab Assistant is responsible for preparing environmental samples for extraction including maintaining adequate production, quality control and turnaround times.
Sample Preparation Technician
Within the Sample Preparation Department, the Sample Preparation Technician will work with client samples and prepare them for analysis in our labs.
