A collaboration that promises to go a long way

Jan 14, 2021
This project is funded by the Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program of Canada.

Through productive collaborative work, the Goodman School of Mines and the Office of Francophone Affairs at Laurentian University have received $25,000 from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESD) as part of the Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program – Innovation Fund.

Managed by Universities Canada, the program is part of Canada’s International Education Strategy and aims to promote international skills development for Canadian students.

These funds will allow us to contemplate innovative practices that:

  • encourage students to consider mobility as an added value to their academic journey;
  • position Laurentian on the world stage;
  • cultivate a major partnership that has existed with chosen postsecondary institutions in West Africa since 2014.

“Developing partnerships, whether they are local or international, is a long-term undertaking. The first step is to identify trusted stakeholders that have benefit potential, then build a relationship, and stay in the know about opportunities of excellence that may lead to positive outcomes for all parties. This grant is the perfect example of such an opportunity, and we are delighted to collaborate with the Office of Francophone Affairs over the next few months to focus on this endeavour.” - Jennifer Abols, Executive Director, Goodman School of Mines
