The Evolution of the Electric Ford F150

A lot of people have grown to love pickup trucks because they represent versatility and dependability that modern life often demands. These big, burly machines have become a staple for many consumers and the trend looks to remain that way for years to come. Ford has led the way with the bestselling F150 truck and it looks like they are not done innovating just yet. We look into the evolution of the upcoming Electric Ford F150 pickup truck, and how it compares to its earlier versions.

 

For its part, Ford has produced trucks that come with the promise of “Built Ford Tough,” and although that tagline has proven to be true most of the time, there are still a few times that it has not been the case. This is particularly true with their flagship truck, the F150.

 

But what will you expect when you buy the new Electric Ford F150? One way to gauge it is to look back at the sales history of this famed model line and see how it stacks up to the competition today.

 

Not all F150s were made the same. If you are in the market for an older model, be aware that some model years presented with more issues than others. Watch out for trucks that were made in the following years: 2005, 2006, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018. This is based on consumer complaints about these trucks with problems ranging from windshield and window problems (window regulator issues), to early engine failure, as well as transmission problems.

 

It is interesting to note that many of these problems were reported far less in the 2017 and 2019 models. This would hopefully bid well for the new Electric Ford F150.

 

Although there have been good model years, there are still overall problems that need to be addressed such as the engine and interior accessories.

 

Fortunately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had given the 2020 Ford F150 5/5 stars for its levels of safety, so this sets a good precedent for its trucks going forward.

 

So how does the Electric Ford F150 stack against the competition? There has always been the age-old battle between Ford and other truck manufacturers like Dodge, Chevy, and RAM, but the F150 has remained the best seller for many years. The field has grown however, with new players like Jeep and EV startups like Rivian, Bollinger, and even Tesla.Tesla will be selling the Cybertruck in 2021 and Rivian will also join the fray with their electric pickups as well. 2021 will be the year that the first pure Electric Ford F150 will debut.

 

Ford needs to be careful about its lead over its competitors. The pickup truck segment has boomed through the years and the trend is clearly going into electrics very soon. The company cannot afford to have quality issues with their current truck lineup going into possibly their most challenging year next year. They should avoid the fate that Pontiac suffered because it had cut corners at the cost of quality which eventually led to its demise in the end.

 

So, while the F150 is still at the top of the roost of pickups, the competition has been ramping up and new trends in electrics could potentially knock Ford out of their top spot if they are not careful.
