Maria Story, P.Eng., President,
Owner

Maria Story has a degree in Chemical Engineering with over 22 years experience as an Environmental Engineer with expertise in water including design of treatment sytems, monitoring, and management of wastewater, storm water, groundwater, surface water, and drinking water.  She has a solid understanding of the regulatory environment and the provincial and federal environmental approvals and permitting processes and has been a witness in an Environmental Assessment Hearing under the Ontario Water Resources Act.   Her environmental engineering work experience has included conducting Environmental Site Assessments, small drinking water system design, preparation of Engineering Evaluation Reports for drinking water systems, troubleshooting drinking water treatment processes and conducting treatability studies, groundwater and surface water assessments, monitoring and compliance reporting,  sampling and modelling of air emissions, preparation of Environmental Compliance Approval applications for Air & Noise, Sewage Works, Permits to Take Water,  Waste Management Systems, and Landfills, waste characterization and management, landfill operational reviews, and designing and conducting extensive public and Aboriginal consultation programs. Her Chemical Engineering background also facilitates the preparation of water balance/budget calculations,  Operation Manuals, Design and Operation Plans, and process engineering design and calculations.

Ken Korman, P.Eng., Senior Environmental Engineer

Ken Korman has over 20 years of consulting experience in geotechnical and environmental engineering.  He has been with Story Environmental Inc. for 7 years.  His educational background consists of a B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba in Geological Engineering and a B. Ed. in Education from Nipissing University. He has also had the opportunity to attend courses and conferences related to risk communication; groundwater modelling; solid waste management; waste diversion strategies and water treatment system operation.

Ken has assessed and managed hundreds of environmental projects throughout Ontario and western Canada (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia).  The projects included Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Compliance Monitoring, and Phase III Remediation.  He has extensive experience relating to soil, groundwater, and surface water investigations, remediation, and management, as well as operation and management of landfills. He has used his combined hydrogeological and geotechnical knowledge to assess and design methods to reduce infiltration and inflow into sanitary sewers which commonly contribute to high flows within sewage treatment plants.

Anthony Story, M.Sc., P.Geo, Environmental Geoscientist

Anthony Story's technical expertise is in hydrology and watershed management and he has 9 years of consulting and academic geosciences employment experience. His educational background consists of a B.Sc. from Trent University with Majors in Geography and Environmental & Resource Science, a M.Sc. in Geography from the University of British Columbia, a M.A from the University of Toronto. He has participated in conferences and courses related to environmental engineering, statistical analysis, and water treatment system operation.

Anthony has considerable experience with the collection of water samples (surface, ground and potable) and interpretation of the associated analytic results. His experience allows him to identify anomalies which occur while sampling. He can addresses any difficulties encountered with field equipment, including purging analytical equipment in the field, making the sampling program effective. His extensive experience in hydrology and data interpretation allows him to effectively and efficiently manage and interpret groundwater and surface water data.   His interest in statistical analysis allows him to identify trends while conducting inter and intra-well comparisons at monitoring sites which is of significant benefit to the final interpretation of the data.

Elizabeth Fisher, BES.,
Environmental Technician

Elizabeth Fisher is an Environmental Technician with Story Environmental Inc. who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) from the University of Waterloo. Elizabeth is also trained in the operation of small drinking water systems and conformance to O.Reg. 170/03 under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Elizabeth originates from northern Ontario, enjoys the outdoors, and is great asset to the team out in the field.

Elizabeth's experience with Story Environmental Inc. includes proposal and report preparation, environmental sample collection (groundwater, surface water, air, soil), small drinking water systems, and assisting in survey work.

Elizabeth has growing industry knowledge and experience in surveying and geomatics and works closely with the survey team on various surveying projects.

Beata Bradley, Chem. Eng. Tech., Administrative Assistant

Beata Bradley has 18 years of experience in the field of analytical chemistry including instrumental analysis and has extensive knowledge of laboratory procedures, analytical testing, document preparation and review. Her educational background consists of a Chemical Engineering Technology Diploma from Sheridan College as well as courses related to project management and regulatory requirements.

As an Administrative Assistant, Beata is responsible for the daily office operations that include maintaining confidential records and files as well as customer service. This includes typing and editing of documents, preparing Standard Operating Procedures, and final report preparation. In addition to the above duties, she is responsible for laboratory / field data and entry into our databases, sample analysis (physical testing), managing field and laboratory supplies and equipment, and Research & Development.

Jessica Labelle, B.Sc. (HON), EPt., Environmental Scientist

Jessica Labelle is an Environmental Scientist with over 4 years of experience in the environmental industry.  She has a B.Sc. from Laurentian University in Biology and a Graduate Certificate from Cambrian College in Environmental Monitoring and Impact Assessment. She has experience conducting electrofishing, fish identification, and benthic sampling studies as well as air and noise monitoring studies.

Jessica has previously worked in the Environment Department at a coal mine in western Canada where she gained experience in water quality (surface, ground, potable, and waste), air quality, contaminated soil, acid rock drainage, and reclamation. She has expertise in writing technical reports, as well as analyzing and interpreting data. She understands how important communication is within a company, as well as with the regulators, so business can operate as scheduled. She is currently working on obtaining her Environmental Professional designation with ECO Canada.
