What are the standard sizes available for your residential garage doors?
In general, standard sizes for door widths are 8', 9' 10', 12', 14', 15', 16', and 18'. Some door series may have exceptions to this rule. Check with Provincial Doors about the availability of specific sizes or custom width doors.

I have a low ceiling in my garage. Will a garage door and opener work in my space?
Yes. A residential door requires a minimum of 6" of headroom space. Your system will need a low headroom extension track or a low headroom torsion rear track. For a garage door opener you'll need slightly more headroom, about 8" minimum.

How do I measure for my garage door?
Though it is not a requirement, measuring your garage door before you first speak to your Provincial Doors Salesman will save you valuable time. You will need the following materials to measure your garage: 25-foot metal tape measure, note pad or clipboard, pens or pencils in different colors.

You can refer to the diagram below for help in sketching a diagram of your own garage. Find the following measurements to the closest fraction of an inch. Write the number down next to the corresponding area in the diagram of your garage.

1. Exact finished opening width
2. Exact finished opening height
3. Sideroom - distance from edge of opening to any wall or other obstruction
4. Headroom - distance from top of finished opening to ceiling or underside of joists
5. Depth into room - distance from finished opening to back point where hardware or the automatic operator will extend.

Note: Standard Lift Door Requires 12" of headroom. Low Headroom Door Requires 6" of headroom. An additional 2" of Headroom is needed if door is motor operated.

Can I paint my garage door?
Yes, but it is not recommended because it will void manufactures 15 year warranty against rust. All Provincial Doors steel garage doors can be painted with the color of your choice by using latex paint.

Can I replace a section of my door or do I need to replace the whole door?
Depending upon the damage involved to the garage door system, it is possible in many cases to replace a section of your garage door. Provincial Doors can evaluate your situation and give you a recommendation on the best course of action.

Why should I choose an insulated door if my garage is uninsulated?
A garage door opening is a very huge hole in your garage. Insulated doors will help to reduce the amount of outside temperatures that enters your garage, thus keeping it more comfortable for you.

This is important for a number of reasons:
1. If your garage is attached to your home, any air in the garage can travel through the doorway to your living area.
2. If you use your garage as a workshop, your comfort will be a top priority.
3. If your garage is below another room in your home, air can travel through the ceiling of the garage into the floor of the room above. An insulated door will keep temperatures in the garage fairly stable to reduce the temperature fluctuation in the room.
4. An insulated door is generally quieter and has a more attractive interior than an un-insulated door.

What are the benefits of a steel door or a wood door?
Steel doors are low maintenance. Typically a wood door needs to be painted as frequently as the wood trim on your home due to weathering. Steel doors have longer warranties than wood doors and can be insulated, making them far more energy efficient than wood.

Do I need to lock my garage door?
If an electric opener has been installed on your door, it may not be necessary to have a lock. Newer electric openers function as the lock, making it improbable that an intruder would be able to lift your door from the outside. If you have an older opener, check to see if your door can be lifted from the outside.

How do I test my safety reverse mechanism on my electric opener?
Press the close button on your garage door opener. As the door is closing, break the invisible beam of light transmitted by the photocells (which are located on the tracks about 6" to 10" from the bottom) and the door should reverse directions. If this does not happen, have a qualified professional at Provincial Doors repair or replace the faulty opener or parts.

One of the springs on my garage door is broken, do I need to replace them both?
Yes, when one spring breaks the other often follows, save yourself the inconvenience and cost of another service call and have them both replaced at the same time. It is also easier to properly balance a door when both springs are new.

What is R-value and how does it benefit me?
R-value is a standardized measurement of thermal efficiency. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating properties.

What maintenance does my garage door require?
We recommend you have your garage door inspected annually. Provincial Doors can give you the most thorough evaluation and perform routine maintenance as needed.

My transmitter isn't working. What is my first step?
The first thing that you need to be concerned about is a faulty transmitter. Try replacing the battery. This is the most common cause of failure and you should not have to reprogram the transmitter after replacing the battery. In very rare circumstances, such as when replacing the transmitter's battery, if the transmitter has not been used for a period of time, it may have lost its internal settings and may need to be reprogrammed. Please refer to your owner's manual or call Provincial Doors to reprogram your radio controls.
