Drinking Water

Having installed more than 15,000 residential wells, Puitbec is a provincial leader in drilling artesian wells.

Residental and Agricultural

Wherever no municipal water supply system is available, securing a reliable supply of drinking water becomes an issue. Puitbec always recommends installing an artesian well, a far more effective solution than surface wells.

Artesian wells generally consist of a 150-mm (6-inch) pipe that is drilled down into a confined aquifer. When drilling operations and pump installation are done to standard, surface water cannot infiltrate the well, thereby ensuring a pure water supply year round.

The benefits of artesian wells over surface wells have been clearly established:
• Stable year-round supply of clean water
• Sure investment that will increase property value
• Excellent yield in comparison with surface wells
• Minimum risk of bacterial contamination and infiltration by surface water
• Minimum maintenance

The Ministry of the Environment recommends twice yearly water testing, in the spring and fall, or whenever changes in colour, clarity odour or taste are observed. Under the Groundwater Catchment Regulation, bacterial analyses must be undertaken for all new wells by an accredited laboratory. Sterile sampling bottles are available directly from our Victoriaville branch. Careful application of the water sampling procedure is required.

Puitbec also has the capacity to perform on-site analyses to determine the physical and chemical characteristics of the water source, including hardness level, iron and manganese content, pH, and many other parameters.

Municipal

Puitbec has installed water wells for more than 100 Quebec municipalities, ranging from 150 to 600-mm (24-inches) in diameter, many with casings, and with flow rates up to 9000 litres/minute (2400 GPM).

Commercial and Industrial

Puitbec has the equipment and the expertise to meet specific needs, including drilling for geothermal systems, to anchor dams, as well as for natural gas exploration, exploratory purposes and production wells.

Mining Sector

In the mining sector, Puitbec has proven expertise in inclined drilling for applications such as building mine galleries, blasting boreholes, drilling horizontal drain boreholes, and freezing soil for operational purposes.

Other Drilling Operations

Over its many years of operation, Puitbec has developed extensive drilling expertise. Puitbec provides solutions whatever your needs: environmental drilling, observation wells, biogas recovery wells at landfill sites, horizontal drains for soil depressurization and stabilization, and oil and gas exploration.

With its wide-ranging expertise, Puitbec has the capacity to undertake highly specialized, site-specific work, such as drilling under buildings in confined spaces, or drilling in remote areas or northern conditions.
