ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
 
Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mine Geologist to join our Macassa team.
 
The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Kirkland Lake Gold. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains on the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine. 
 
The Senior Mine Geologist will be responsible for all elements of the Geology production process; including UG mapping sampling, month end reporting, reconciliation, QA/QC and compliance to plan..
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Your responsibilities will include:​
  • Coach, lead and mentor a team of Geologists to ensure all activities are conducted towards reaching the common goal of maximizing grade targets to recovery
  • Reviewing grade estimation and ore delineation models using Software
  • Planning and scheduling of all Geological Services associated with the UG operations on site
  • Effective direction and supervision of mine geologists and technicians in mine production
  • Lead from the front to ensure compliance with the companies Zero Harm safety culture
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Technical reports based on resource definition and production findings
  • Review and develop Underground Geological procedures
  • Responsible for geological QAQC compliance
  • Responsible for managing underground mapping and sampling
  • Leapfrog, Data Mine, Fusion, Auto Cad, DH logger Database management
  • Oversight of Drilling programs and review of the drilling data in order to ensure drilling is meeting the geological objectives
  • Leader in maintaining the successful delineation of further resources to compliment and extend the current mine life
  • Production reconciliation
  • Resource estimations
  • Assistance with exploration programs
  • To strive for continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility.
  • Stand in for the Geology Manager when required
  • Other duties as shared from time to time
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Our ideal candidate has:​​​
  • Degree in Geology or equivalent
  • Capacity to coach, guide, influence and develop others
  • >8 years experience in a mine Geology team
  • Strong Computer and data management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Self starter and ability to lead.

  • Team focused leader with the ability to engage the workgroup and work collaboratively with other stakeholders.
