The Data Analytics Specialist is a Senior level position. The role is responsible for undertaking a detailed analysis of data, building models and creating visualizations to convey insights to support business decisions or to solve business issues. The Data Analytics Specialist works collaboratively with the FP&A group and is a key partner with the analytic and BI groups on projects, enhancements and key processes.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Analytics/Data
• Gathers and analyzes data, builds models and creates visualizations that help to tell a story about a particular business unit, area of opportunity or risk, or solves a particular business problem.
• Analyzes data and provides recommendations using statistical techniques & modeling.
• Develops and implements data structures that optimize reporting, statistical efficiency and quality.
• Writes articulate, focused documentation, definitions and user process as required to enhance the usability and supportability of analytics artifacts.
• Anticipates short and long-term operational/strategic business activities by developing and enhancing process flow, workflow and use of system functionality and capabilities.
• Presents technical data to non-technical users in a way that is easy to consume and understand.
Team Leadership
• Facilitates the planning and execution of business analysis activities.
• Work with cross-functional teams on new projects and initiatives
• Provides mentorship to team members assisting others as required.
• Consults with and builds strong, positive and influential relationships with the management team providing technical guidance and direction.
• May participate in the recruiting, hiring and training of business analysis team members.
WORK EXPERIENCE
• 8-10 years relevant experience in data analytics for financial planning.
• 2-3+ years of experience using PowerBI, Tableau or equivalent to build interactive data models, dashboards, and visualizations.
• Experience performing analysis and what-if scenarios in Excel that source data from sources such as PowerBI and Azure Cubes.
• Experience using data flows or process automation to automate simple, repeatable, or time-consuming processes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Exceptional communication, both written and verbal, and presentation skills.
• Effective project management skills.
• High-level critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Extensive knowledge of Power BI & Power Query for data modelling, visualization and app delivery.
• Strong working knowledge of at least one of the following languages: SQL, DAX, Python, Power Query; able to learn new development languages and switch between languages listed above as required.
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft platform including Office 365, Azure, and the Power Platform.
• Knowledge of Agile concepts including backlogs, sprints, and planning boards; experience with Azure DevOps or an equivalent tool.
• Knowledgeable of source control best practices.
• Able to learn and perform basic source control activities such as creating branches and pull requests.
• Microsoft Office expertise as well as related data science tools including Power Automate, Forms and Sharepoint.
EDUCATION
• Post-secondary degree in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
