Jul 22, 2020

Based in Victoria, the Pacific Section of the Geological Association of Canada is dedicated to advancing the geosciences in British Columbia, focusing on the Pacific coast and Vancouver Island. The Section promotes a better understanding of the geosciences among professionals, students, and the general public through meetings, lecture series, field trips, publications, social events, and outreach activities.

The Pacific Section Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student registered in an undergraduate geoscience program at the University of Victoria. The $500 award was established in 1985 with proceeds from the annual Geological Association of Canada – Mineralogical Association of Canada conference (GAC-MAC) hosted in Victoria in 1983.

The Awards Committee of the School of Earth and Ocean Science selects the recipient from full-time students who are entering third or fourth year and are pursuing careers in the solid Earth sciences.

The recipient also receives a one-year membership to the Pacific Section.
