The Saga of a Frac Sand Mine in Central Texas
Event Details
“The Saga of a Frac Sand Mine in Central Texas: The Good, The Bad & The What Do We Do Now?” is presented by Michelle M. Lee, Senior Geologist, Westward Environmental Inc. A mine near Voca, Texas, has evolved over the years from one of the few providing a popular frac sand commodity, to one of many frac sand providers, to its current operation as an industrial and aggregate producer. The name has changed and they are revamping a slumping frac sand product line into industrial and aggregate sand that has brought new life, and business wherewithal, into this part of the state. This presentation will discuss the methods and the foresight that went into righting the ship of a former frac sand mine in Central Texas.

Michelle Lee, PG, is licensed in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama with over 30 years’ experience in the mining, aggregates and environmental industries. Her primary responsibilities include the design, direction and performance of a wide range of geologic investigations, subsurface exploration with drilling and geophysical methods, reserves calculations, mine planning, technical expert for litigation, community relations, seismic overviews and industry specific education programs.
