SEG Workshop: Exploring in Presence of Complex Overburden
2-4 December 2020 | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Be part of SEG's hybrid workshop where participants and speakers will have the option to attend onsite or virtually!

One of the principal challenges in venturing into frontier exploration and production is to understand which acquisition, model building, seismic imaging, and interpretation strategies can help to solve the imaging complexities existing in these regions. This would get more complicated with the presence of geologically complex overburden interval, such as gas clouds, lithologically-varied shallow channels and salt diapirism , just to name a few.

Working in areas of complex overburdens is not new to seismic exploration. However, in this age of hyper-connectivity and learning by example, we are in a position to appreciate that transverse solutions could exist beyond individual silos.

This workshop endeavors to bring together the knowledge and experience gained in different areas of geoscience to explore solutions for seismic imaging challenges arising from the overburden interval. We will also aim to understand how advances in related domains like survey design, multi-physics, QI, petrophysics, imaging while drilling, VSP, converted wave imaging, machine learning, etc. can also help or support high-end seismic imaging and interpretation in this area.

Workshop Format

The format of the workshop will feature presentations by invited key experts who will share their experiences. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for open and extended discussions among the participants.

Eight sessions (2 days). We will aim for one keynote speaker per day with a closing session at the end of the workshop to serve as the outlook going forward. The oral presentations are comprised of 20-minute talks followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. After each session, a 30-minute discussion session is planned. The objective of this session is to allow participants to discuss in detail and learn from each other what has worked for them and debate the issues and challenges facing them during their daily workflows. Session chairs will also serve as discussion leaders during the 30 minutes.

Poster Presentations are welcome to give ample time to the delegates to discuss the poster topic with the author(s). Posters will be in displayed in the workshop room available for viewing during coffee breaks and afternoon free time following each session.
