Clean Harbors Inc.

Clean Harbors’ light bulb recycling process located at our Chicago, Illinois RCRA treatment, storage and disposal facility processes straight tubes, U-tubes and circular lamps.  This process separates the metal, glass, and mercury containing phosphors, and then segregates each component into separate containers. Glass and metal are sent to approved local recyclers, and the mercury phosphors are sent for further refinement at a Clean Harbors approved retort facility.

Responsible Alternative to Landf
Through Clean Harbors’ process, no materials are landfilled thereby offering a responsible alternative to stabilization and landfill.

In-house Capabilities for Final Disposal Reduces Liability
Our in-house processing capabilities provide final disposal of your bulbs.  All components of the bulb are either recycled or reused further limiting your liability.

Superior Technology
Our light bulb recycling unit is superior to other bulb crushing units, which typically only crush bulbs and commingle all components. Our unit recycles 100% of the components of your light bulbs, and it fully contains any possible fugitive emissions.

By law, all oil water separator systems must be cleaned and/or inspected on a regular basis. Clean Harbors will provide a complete inspection of your system and recommend a cleaning program that will meet your needs and the requirements of the law. During the cleaning process, we remove all liquids and sludge from your separator and all drains and pipes associated with the system.

For automotive services centers, in changeouts of antifreeze, we will separate the water from the oil, and pump out the sludge whether you have “do it yourself” (DIY) auto maintenance and repair, or “do it for me” (DIFM) service.

Retail businesses are responsible for maintaining any catch basin that is located on their property.  Catch basins that have been affected by spills and polluted runoffs or that are clogged from accumulated sediment, trash or debris can cause water to collect in parking lots and can block sewer systems.  It is essential to maintain catch basins to prevent sewer blockages, prevent parking lot flooding, and reduce the amount of pollutants entering storm sewers, which discharge directly into our waterways.

Clean Harbors can easily clean the most difficult to reach catch basins.  We routinely perform maintenance of catch basins by removing obstructing materials such as leaves and litter, as well as entire storm drainage systems. We also provide emergency service to handle pump station or sewer line failures.  All sediments are properly disposed of at a company owned permitted facility.

Clean Harbors can deliver significant savings to generators by recycling solvents, oils, combustion engine fluids, and many manufactured parts and products, and ensures that your waste is being protected from future environmental liabilities. Clean Harbors Oil Recycling Services collect and process drum and bulk oil and oil related materials for beneficial reuse including waste oil, oil water mixtures, and oil filters through a network of company owned and operated oil recycling and processing facilities.

For automotive services centers, we will separate the water from the oil and pump out the sludge whether you offer “do it yourself” (DIY) auto maintenance and repair, or “do it for me” (DIFM) service.

Clean Harbors collects and manages unsafe, hazardous or defective products that are being recalled or discontinued so they will not be misused or end up on the wrong hands. We collect, sort, package, manifest, transport and dispose of these waste products in compliance with local, state, provincial, and federal regulations.    If the retail store opts to package the recalled or discontinued products themselves, we can provide the packing materials, supplies and containers.

Shredding Services
Customers often generate hazardous and non-hazardous wastes that contain sensitive information, trade secrets, or packing and labeling which have their company name or trademark on them. Clean Harbors’ shredding technology guarantees our customers that their waste products will be completely defaced prior to disposal and that they can not be pilfered, reused or resold once shredded.

Witness Destruction of Sensitive or Classified Material
Clean Harbors offers witness destruction services for sensitive, classified or high profile products.  From secure shipment through to final disposal, Clean Harbors has the necessary controls and processes for secure and complete destruction.  We also offer witness slot availability for those customers who do not want their non-saleable items to remain in inventory for any period of time and require immediate processing upon receipt.

Clean Harbors safely and routinely manages retail products that need to be discarded due to shelf life expiration or damages. Products include aerosol cans, laundry detergent, lighter fluids, ammunition, toys, cosmetics, perfumes, flammable goods, garden supplies, oils, engine fluids, and parts cleaners.  Our specialists collect, sort, package, manifest, transport and dispose of these products to prevent them from entering the consumer market.  If the retail store opts to package the damaged goods themselves, we can provide the packing materials, supplies and containers.

Clean Harbors’ network of treatment, storage and disposal facilities coupled with our logistical support, afford you to work with just one company to handle 100% of the collection and disposal of your unwanted consumer products.

Depending on your disposal requirements, Clean Harbors can provide landfill disposal for non-hazardous items at a lower cost than incineration.  We can provide product shredding service to ensure complete destruction of the products before landfill. We can also provide cost-effective incineration, fuel blending and aqueous treatment for both hazardous and non-hazardous consumer products.
