Freda Ouellette, Employment and Training Coordinator
Freda spent her early years at Kapuskasing District High School. While at the school, Freda developed an appreciation for the business world through courses including Small Business Bookkeeping and Advanced Computer Software Applications. Much of her experience was gained through Supervisor and Coordinator positions with the Mamowedow Local of Smooth Rock Falls, part of the larger Ontario Native Women's Association. The organization focused on providing employment, housing, and health & wellness services, as well as leadership training for community outreach. Freda also has experience working in the natural resources sector with Island Falls Forestry. Freda is well aware of the challenges facing Northern communities and the need for employment and training to take advantage of the new opportunities that are coming to the North.
As Employment and Training Coordinator, Freda will complete a database of all TTN members, including information about their skills and how to contact them. This will help to create a potential employee list for the New Post Creek Project and other projects. Freda will also assist TTN members in finding the necessary skills training to fit the upcoming and current employment opportunities, and identify funding programs to assist in this training.
Freda will also be responsible for identifying any requirements of the New Post Creek or Lower Mattagami projects that can be filled by local suppliers of goods and services. This could include supplying the work camp as well as the eventual generating facility with goods or services. Freda will work with the TTN Economic Development Officer, Derek Archibald, and Education Director, Neil Iserhoff, to identify and support those businesses that may be able to supply some good or service.
