Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario

Programs

The OETIO provides training from two primary campuses in Ontario. The Morrisburg campus, in eastern Ontario, delivers heavy equipment operator training and also serves as the design, development and administrative center of the OETIO. The Oakville campus, a new modern facility co-located with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793 headquarters (IUOE), opened in January of 2006 as the center for crane operator training. Both campuses also provide a wide range of construction safety courses in support of industry requirements.

Instructors The OETIO instructors are seasoned operators with a minimum of 10 years of on-the-job experience who are well-trained in adult instructional techniques and training methodologies.

Curriculum The OETIO curriculum is developed using the Systems Approach to Training and is consistent with the Ontario Apprenticeship Standards and the Canadian National Occupational Standards for both cranes and heavy equipment trades.

Classrooms and Laboratories The OETIO classrooms and laboratories are equipped with the latest technology to transfer the knowledge and reinforce the skills required to operate equipment.

Simulators The OETIO has both virtual reality and mechanical simulators which can replicate mobile cranes, tower cranes and heavy equipment in a safe, controlled environment.

Practical
Training
The OETIO uses full size, industry standard equipment and specific field exercises to reinforce the inspection, maintenance, and operating techniques of cranes and heavy equipment.
