About the Company

Through the connection with Alexander Centre Industries, Fisher-Wavy has a long tradition of environmental action. In the 1970s, Clifford Fielding, the founder of the company, planted over one million trees on company property, and Fisher-Wavy continues to make a point of protecting this legacy today.

Fisher-Wavy also keeps up with emerging Ministry of Environment (MOE) and Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) guidelines.  Fisher-Wavy is currently developing a system that would capture wastewater from washing their facilities. The water would then be re-used in making concrete at Fisher-Wavy's ready-mix plant. The system will soon be an MOE requirement and should be operational at Fisher-Wavy in one to two years.

Fisher-Wavy already complies with MOE and MNR pollution guidelines that regulate the amount of air and noise pollution that can be produced by quarries and cement plants. In their quarrying operations Fisher-Wavy keeps blasting noise below 120 decibels and uses water in the rock crushing process to suppress the dust that is created. Noise levels and the amount of particulate that becomes air-borne are also kept to a minimum at Fisher-Wavy's ready-mix concrete facility.

Implementation of the EarthCare Sudbury Local Action Plan (LAP)

Air Quality
Measures to minimize air pollutants contribute the LAP objective of reducing local air pollution.

Wastewater
Fisher-Wavy's new system to capture wastewater will not only alleviate some of the strain on the municipal wastewater system, but also it will re-use the wastewater in a productive manner.
