The Opportunity
 
The successful candidate will lead and supervise the ventilation technical services personnel required to support the mine plan within the Homesafe framework; lead, plan and schedule the activities within the ventilation group to ensure legislated requirements are met; and provide ventilation support to the mine in a cost effective and efficient manner that protects the integrity of the mine's ventilation system. The position is located at Stobie Mine.

 
Accountabilities
 
Develops work plans and schedules for subordinates to support the engineering/execution plans developed by the CME, Mine Manager and his/her collateral team. Provide updated and accurate information to assist the Operations Superintendents with risk analysis options for decision making to ensure the integrity of assets, compliance to standards and legislative requirements. 

Accountable for execution of the safety plan for personnel in the ventilation discipline working at the mine.

Manage and develop direct reports (Career and Succession efforts, performance management, training, ventilation development program, etc.).  

Build 1 - 3 year mine ventilation plans based on the mine production schedule.

Raise ventilation issues that have potential to adversely impact the mine; review with the CME and operations personnel as required.

Initiate ventilation improvement projects for the site. Includes preparation of studies (economic analysis and financial viability of projects and business opportunities (product testing, cost savings, system efficiency, etc.)

Ensure that direct reports are applying MTS guidelines, incorporating mining regulations in the daily operation of the mine and in ventilation planning.

Provides input & review of ventilation and blast letters. Ensure the ventilation layouts meet the needs of the operations and abide by Homesafe principles.

Manage ventilation assets to control costs.

Provide direction to senior management during fires/emergencies through implementation of the mine Emergency Plan.

 
Education and Professional Qualifications
 
Must have at a minimum, a College Diploma in Mines Engineering Technology or University Degree in Mines Engineering
CET or PEng Designation is preferred
Experience:
 
Must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a Mines Engineering or Technical role, ideally in a senior capacity with project or team leadership exposure 
 
 
Knowledge and Skills
 
Advanced ventilation technical skills, capable to implement procedures and problem solve for complex systems, operations and mine rescue experience is beneficial, leadership, people development, results oriented, attention to detail, safety focus.
 
Ability to decipher and prioritize multiple tasks.
 
Hold people accountable for working within boundaries of Homesafe and company policies.
 
Verbal and written communication, the candidate must be able to accurately inform, capture interest and gain support in a clear and concise manner.
 
Health safety and environment, the Candidate must be able to recognize, prioritize, and understand the controls required to mitigate risks in the workplace.
 
Judgment, the candidate must be able to consider the situation, the issues and the people involved. This involves identifying, defining and analyzing problems or situations. It also involves the use of reason and the formulation of viable solutions and potential improvements.

Business sense - must be able to use the formal and informal technical and human resources systems and contacts, including supervisors, managers, departments, etc., to achieve needed results
 

 

Ventilation Supervisor

The successful candidate will lead and supervise the ventilation technical services personnel required to support the mine plan within the Homesafe framework.

Mine Operator 1 – Diller / Blaster

The primary role of this position is to participate in drilling and blasting activities within the open pit mine.

Maintenance Planner

This position will be a critical part of the implementation of a maintenance engineering and reliability system that conforms to Vale standards and world class best practices.
