The Colowyo Mine is the newest addition to the Western Fuels family. In September of 2011 Western Fuels-Colorado, LLC entered into an agreement with Rio Tinto Energy America to purchase the Colowyo Mine. 
The Cordero Rojo Mine is located approximately 25 miles south of Gillette, Wyoming. The mine extracts thermal coal from the Wyodak Seam, which ranges from approximately 55 to 70 feet in thickness.
