As a licensed physician with knowledge of substance abuse, only a Medical Review Officer can review a DOT mandated drug test from a lab. Gatekeepers and guardians of test results, DriverCheck's team of experienced Medical Review Officers is trained and certified.

Our team of Medical Review Officers consists of two full-time MRO's, Dr. Chris Page and Dr. Barry Kurtzer, supported by a number of part-time MROs.

Dr. Chris Page, M.D., MRO, is Founder of DriverCheck, President and Medical Review Officer. Dr. Page practiced in emergency medicine for over twenty years. He became one of the first full time emergency medicine specialists in Canada and is one of the first Canadian physicians to become a U.S. certified Medical Review Officer. Dr. Page is widely regarded in the medical, legal and business circles as an expert in drug and alcohol testing and the U.S. DOT regulations. In addition, his role as Medical Director at the Hamilton Methadone Clinic has given him valuable experience in the field of addictions.

Dr. Barry Kurtzer is our Chief Medical Review Officer. He has been providing drug and alcohol testing programs and services to Canadian businesses and industry since 1977. This includes the introduction of DOT regulatory testing programs to Canada’s truck sector in 1996. Dr. Kurtzer has also practiced Occupational Medicine since 1977, making him highly knowledgeable in employment requirements, collective bargaining agreement issues, labour law and the human rights legislation impact of drug and alcohol testing policies and programs and vice versa. Dr. Kurtzer has testified at arbitration hearings, court cases, and Labour relation Board hearings, Human Rights Commission hearings. He has provided expert written submissions to Child Custody courts, Workers' Compensation Boards and private companies in preparation for hearings of various types. Dr. Kurtzer is available to provide expert witness consultation.

Our MROs review lab results, interview the donor when necessary, determine whether an alternative medical explanation could account for a positive test result, report the verified result to the employer, and maintain the confidentiality of the information. Bilingual MRO service is also available.

DriverCheck provides access to results automatically, electronically and confidentially, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week using our new eManda customized software. The eManda system is protected using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to ensure complete user confidentiality. A printed copy
of non-negative results with an MRO signature will always be mailed to you after verification.

Return-to-Duty Process - For each violation of company policy or DOT regulations, DriverCheck helps clients manage the return-to-duty process. This includes communication with Substance Abuse Professionals for education and treatment, monitoring the return-to-duty test as well as management of the unannounced follow-up testing program. DriverCheck’s computerized program will select unannounced dates over a specified term. DriverCheck will remind the client as the dates approach.
